About Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Education (Theory and Practice) (BAEd)
If you are currently working in an education or training environment, this course will give you the opportunity to boost your higher education qualifications to Honours Degree level. It has been specifically designed for Top-Up Foundation degrees in Education or for students with professional teaching qualifications.
The aim of the BA Ed is to improve professional practice in the workplace. It will provide students with a theoretical underpinning and appropriate analytic tools to critically examine their own work setting. The programme is based on the premise that practical decisions must be objectively evaluated against recognised criteria.
The course itself is a two year, part time programme. However, The Learning Institute is offering students the chance to enrol on this course full time. It is made up of six single modules and an independent study double module.
This programme does not give students Qualified Teacher Status but acts as an excellent starting point for courses such as Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and Graduate Teacher training.
Assessment
This programme uses a wide variety of assessment methods including essays, seminars, practical workshops, professional journals, projects and reports. The final assessment piece is a research project (Dissertation) which enables students to explore the interests they have developed during the course. Students will be supported throughout the course by experienced academic tutors and by a peer support network.
